Citizens Medical

Our Goals
at Citizens Medical
Advocate for greater awareness of public health challenges, and recognize the economic, political and bureaucratic failures of current systems.
Develop basic healthcare models that are free to the patient and voluntarily-funded by an empowered people. And share our models in an 'open source' manner, freely and transparently, in the hope that you too can enable your own communities through micro-development with macro-funding.
Open our own free clinics wherever there is need, and build funding systems that can address the costs of critical and urgent care. And provide a step-by-step model, sharing our knowledge, our mistakes and our successes freely and openly.
'The UN's 2030 Agenda to eradicate poverty through Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relies too much on a poverty line set so low by the World Bank that it allows governments to claim progress where there is none.'
- Philip Alston, former United Nations Special Rapporteur, Special Procedures Report, July 7th, 2020 for the Office of the High Commissioner on Human Rights

Advocacy & Engagement
(How We Want to Do It)
Initially, we want to advocate. Second, to act.
Our idea, in some sense, is not new. There are thousands of non-governmental organizations around the world that open their doors every day to people in need who otherwise wouldn't have access to essential health services. They work in conflict zones, humanitarian settings and fill the gaps left behind by national healthcare systems. Many even just cover the costs of healthcare for those who can't pay for it.
You know the names - the Red Cross, Médecins sans Frontier and many more like them - and perhaps you already donate. At Citizens Medical, we like them too. We think they're amazing,
But just like the UN and national health services, the scale of the problem goes far beyond their incredible work. With more than half the world's population having only limited or no access to essential services and others underwater trying to pay for it, the reality is that we don't need another Red Cross or MSF. We need thousands of them!
We believe the only way to do that is to change people's views of healthcare and empower them. For too long, media and governments have filtered our conception of our own health, and interlocked them with private corporate interests.
At Citizens, we believe that health is one of our most fundamental responsibilities. It is the responsibility of both the patient and the provider, the individual and the community. It is not about politicians or budgets, borders or bureaucracy. It is not about public or private systems, co-pays or deductibles. It is about putting a patient in front of a doctor, so they can work together on the best health outcomes possible.
Citizens Medical wants to make that equation so.
We first want to advocate for greater awareness of public health challenges, and recognize the economic, political and bureaucratic failures of current systems.
We want to develop basic healthcare models that are free to the patient and voluntarily-funded by an empowered people. And we want to share these models in an 'open source' manner, freely and transparently with everyone, to enable your own communities through micro-development with macro-funding.
Finally, we ourselves want to open our own free basic clinics wherever there is need, and build funding systems that can address the costs of critical and urgent care. And we want to provide a step-by-step model, sharing our knowledge, our mistakes and our successes freely and openly.
